At the 100,000 factored hour mark, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) strongly recommends to owners/operators of V84.2 gas turbines that extensive inspection of all major components be conducted during a major outage. This "Life Time Extension (LTE)" Scope of Work, performed on site during the major, achieves inspection of all critical rotating and non-rotating components utilizing a wide variety of nondestructive test (NDT) methods. Extensive planning and diligence is required such that the overall outage schedule is not adversely affected.

In 2009, Eta Technologies LLC (Eta Tech) was asked by a V84.2 client to provide engineering, planning and assistance in execution of the LTE Scope of Work during their planned major outage. In response, Eta Tech:

Engineered and compiled a full LTE Scope of Work, including specification of all NDT methods appropriate for each component
Interviewed several potential NDT service providers and identified the most qualified and cost effective source
Provided technical guidance and component familiarization training to the selected NDT source prior to the outage
Assisted in planning and scheduling of all inspection activities
Provided engineering assistance during the outage in interpretation and dispositioning of findings

With the help of Eta Tech, the LTE Scope of Work was completed in 14 days, which included significant re-inspection after on-site repair activities. Most importantly, there was no impact on the overall major outage schedule!
